The study focused on the status and prospects of three major Philippines feed crops (corn, palay & soybean), as they functionally relate to the livestock sector. A detailed discussion on local livestock, poultry, aquaculture, and feed milling industry sub-sectors, as well as the three feed crops is presented to examine the current status of these industries. The study analyzed the trends and projections of supply and demand of feed crops from 1998-2015 and evaluated the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in developing the feed crop sector in the Philippines. |

China feeds twenty-two percent of the world's population on seven percent of its arable land. In contrast, the U.S. and Canada own seventeen percent of the world's arable land, but feed only five percent of its people. As China's income increases, its people will demand more livestock products, including poultry, dairy, beef, and eggs, and more alcohol. Potential Chinese import demand for pork is examined in this paper. The question facing Chinese policymakers is whether to follow their current policy of food self-sufficiency or allow imports of pork muscle and variety meats. Projections of Chinese production and consumption indicate that, by the year 2007, China could import up to 9.1 million metric tons (product weight equivalent) of pork. The current... |

Scientific inquiry is increasing our knowledge of plant and animal genomics. The ability to specify heterogeneous production processes, to sort agricultural inputs by genotype, or to guide breeding programs to satisfy specific markets based on genetic expression may potentially increase producer and consumer benefits. This research develops a decision analysis framework to assess the expected value of genetic information. Expected returns are evaluated both in the presence of, and without, genetic trait information. Potential gains in the value of information can be quantified as research unravels the linkages between genetics and crop and animal performance and quality. An application to cattle feeding indicates potential gains to developing markets... |

In 1985, a total of 17 regional cooperatives marketed livestock. These cooperatives were created to provide greater competition, bargaining power, and market access for producers. Growth in direct marketing, bypassing the services of cooperatives, has occurred because the number of buyers has decreased and producers want to improve marketing efficiency or lower explicit costs. Less emphasis on providing convenient markets, more competitive service charges, supplementing buy-sell operations with advisory services to help members manage risk, and increasing coordination are options that might enable cooperatives to continue to meet their original Objectives. |

The aim of this paper is to analyze the impact of the economic policies on the Argentinean Agricultural sector for the period 1980-2007. By evaluating the changes that have been taken place in the production styles and the role played by the rise in profitability of cereals, oleaginous crops and beef cattle, we seek to identify the main elements that will allow us to understand the general path that the sector has taken for the period under analysis. After explaining the general evolution of the sector, we end up our analysis identifying the future challenges that the country will face regarding food security, health regulations and environmental problems. |
